Applying Updates

When an update is sent from the Polygon POS Management Back of House (BOH), the update needs to be applied at the FOH to complete the update process. Updates are applied in one of two ways depending on whether the system is configured to use Internet updates or configured to use Local Area Network (LAN) updates.

To download an update which has been sent over the internet, follow these steps:

1.Make sure all POS terminals are switched on and running the POS terminal software;

2.Go to the login screen of each master terminal and click the Web Updates button . Once the update has been downloaded it will be broadcast across the network to the other POS terminals and installed. It is important NOT to interrupt this process by turning off the POS terminals while the update is being installed;

Note: POS terminals automatically download and install any available updates during the closing procedure when the sales are reset. See section FOH > Closing Procedure for more information on this topic.

Before sending an update from the BOH computer, ensure all POS terminals are powered on but not running the POS terminal software. Once the update is complete, open the POS terminal software on the master POS terminal. After a few seconds the update will be automatically installed on the master terminal only. Once the installation completes on the master terminal, the update must be sent to the slave terminals. To do this, click the System Settings button on the toolbar at the top of the master terminal, then click the broadcast update btnFOHBroadcastUpdate button. If you are sure you want to broadcast an update, click the Yes button. Usually updates include configuration changes only, so unless new software is being installed, click on the Data Only button. It is advised you consult Redcat support before broadcasting full updates at the FOH. Once the broadcast has been completed, open the POS terminal software on each slave terminal to install the update.
